About the Mokha Institute

The Mokha Institute is a US- and Yemen-based nonprofit institute that focuses on economic development in Yemen primarily through the country’s coffee sector. Founded by two coffee professionals with a shared love of coffee and Yemen—Mokhtar Alkhanshali and Willem Boot—The Mokha Institute seeks to build, empower, and uplift Yemen through improving the coffee industry infrastructure, enabling farmers and coffee stakeholders to participate in the global coffee industry, and engaging Yemenis around the belief that coffee can provide economic security and social empowerment.

The National Yemen Coffee Auction (NYCA) is the flagship program of The Mokha Institute. Through the NYCA, we aim to have an immediate ecomomic impact through providing Yemen’s coffee sector with direct access to the global specialty coffee market for the first time in history.
